Try to Picture this . . .

I THINK we were in Yosemite. One of those galvanized metal guardrails on the right side of the road, bending around a turn. Looking through the rearview mirror we saw roughly twenty feet of parallel guardrail, but 10 feet further off the road. I'm having trouble describing this . . .

It was as if the nearer guardrail stopped, but an overlapping guardrail picked up and continued down the mountain.

The point is that they formed a sort of entrance way to a place hidden from the roadway. We did an about face and camped the night beside a rushing river. Big boulders. Cool.

i know where we were. somewhere in montana. we had left spokane and were headed to yellowstone. i remember we pulled off the highway and drove down an embankment to a stone beach and a rapidly moving river (yellowstone river maybe). we hadn't bathed since san francisco and i remember diving into freezing water and swimming out a few strokes and swimming back it and being 20 yards downstream because the water was moving so fast. we soaped up and best we could, but, the water was so damn cold.

i just could not remember how we managed to leave the highway and get down to the water.....you have filled in that blank spot ... thanks...

I like the inclusion of the giant drivable roller skate! Our local skating rink has just such a promotional item!

But, umm, I don't remember seeing one on our trip. Hmmm.
