Anything big for the 4th?

Well, no. Not really. We had sort of planned a weekend with Cindy's family in Murfreesboro, but then a realtor called and asked to show our house on Sunday. With 2 dogs and 4 cats, the very real possibility of poop, urine, vomit, or hairballs is always present, so we have decided to stick around here. We are in a "lease-purchase" home . . . with the idea that if and when our house in SC ever sells, we'll close on this one. But after 16 months of waiting, we've begun to think the SC house will NEVER sell.
With this in mind we are shifting into another way of thinking . . .
and have found a "Green Acres" house out in the country. 2 story, wood frame, built c. 1900, very bad shape. We'll work on it while we live in our current palatial digs. This photo makes it look cleaner and prettier and in better shape than it is.

In other news, Hank and I have just returned from seven days high in the Blue Ridge Mountains at a very rustic Boy Scout reservation. It was hard living, but great!

2 THINGS:

1ST: I remember scout camp all to well. Mom and Dad would dump us for a week (or two) and go have some 'away from kids' time. always the heat of the summer. Spent most of the time gathering wood, cooking and cleaning up afterwards. In a way it was good, because you learned to appreciate indoor plumbing, clean clothes and a decent meal. I never really got into the spirit of scouts and was happy to leave it behind. Ergo, Charles was not pushed in that direction. He tried it for a few weeks and then decided to pass

2nd: Strange thing about selling a home. I love my big old home. Found it 'for sale by owner' on my route to and from work. Kept looking at it as i passed by and after a month or so asked Lisa about a possible move. Granted it's a money pit and will out live me and my money, but it's just a great house and yard (especially for city living). Over the last few years I've thought about moving out. Too many stairs for Lisa and Ciera. Too many rooms to clean. Too much yard to maintain. And the neighborhood is slipping. But, I always came back to my goal of keeping my kids growing time a stable one (compared to mine, anything would be concerned stable, but i wanted Charles to have roots and a home to come back to from college)so we stay put. Now here's the strange thing, I get a letter in the mail a week ago and it's a personal letter from a realator saying that he is not trying to list my house but he has a couple that is looking to buy in this area and they liked what they saw from the street and would like to see the property. Would you be interested in selling you house? Well, I've always had a phobia about not being able to sell if i had to (see KOTW's post)and now someone was coming to me and it would not have any realtor costs either....Lisa and I decided it wouldn't hurt to let them look and if they made an offer we could not refuse......well....who knows. so we did a 10 minute tidy and let them in last night......strange, very strange.....

KOTW: good luck with both the selling of the old and the 'renovation' of the 'new to you'.
