ETC,ETC,ETC........

joe, great pictures of big bend. i can't believe we camped there....middle of nowhere. i kinda remember a little bit of the hike and i do not remember the road full of millipedes. but i do chuckle when i read your description. talk about wide open spaces and nothing for miles around, welcome to west texas and left arm sunburn.

when we left big bend we headed to Carlsbad Cavern's, NM. I remember trying to get up early enough to see the bats return and arriving to late. but i do not remember if we actually toured the cave. (i have been back twice since and have been inside, beautiful).

somehow we found Hank and family and if i recall he was more than happy to get 'moving on' and we did not stay long. and now one of the darkest days of my live occured. i am embarassed to even talk about it. yes, i made a navigational error, there it's out.........yes, the first and only (that i'll admit to) occurance in the 2 months we criss crossed the u.s. as we left carrizozo with all 3 now occupying the Land Crusier (now the vehicle seemed alot smaller not as comfortable, if it was ever comfortable) we drove south to catch I-10, next stop Tucson,Az. well, then it happened. as we hit the interchange somewhere Las Curces i directed the driver on to the wrong entrance ramp and we did not realize we were going eastbound instead of westbound until the sign said "welcome to Texas" (granted it was high noon and we had no shadows to help me... i know, weak, but true). we took the next exit and reverse our direction. i was pissed at myself.

next stop: Tucson............the scheduled 2 night layover with the Tapp family that i played into 4....ain'l love grant.....and my traveling buddies were nice enough to obliage. details tomorrow (with the help of joe's and hank's memories)
